I STARTED BAKING WEDDING CAKES AFTER I FELL IN LOVE WITH A CAKE DECORATING BOOK PURCHASED TO HELP CREATE MY OWN WEDDING CAKE. I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY THE DESIGNS, AND THE CREATIVITY IN THE PLACEMENT OF EDIBLE LACE, SEQUINS AND PEARLS, THAT COULD BE USED TO ALMOST LOOK LIKE THE MATERIAL ON A BRIDE'S WEDDING GOWN.
FROM THERE ON IN... I WAS HOOKED!
After working in Property Management for 3 years, whilst training in the art of baking for wedding cakes and sugar floristry, I finally took a leap of faith and left my city job to curate beautifully bespoke cakes in my country side kitchen, set in the quaint Kent village of Halling.
It has been an incredible journey so far; I have crafted roses, peonies, ranunculus, orchids, anemones and lilies but to name a few out of sugar. Taken on challenging cakes such as an upside down, hanging chandelier cake, and developed my product range to cater for an ever changing market. This year brings on even more new designs and challenges, and I have been fortunate enough collaborate on styled wedding shoots, and guest blog for one of the top UK Wedding Blogs 'Whimsical Wonderland Weddings'.
Every week I carry on exploring new techniques, and love nothing better than to set out with my camera and take photos of stunning flowers and foliage at RHS Wisley, and many other Kent gardens, all to inspire my own bakes and sugar flower designs.
One of the perks of my job, that I had not expected, was all the wonderful couples and their families that I get to meet. It is such an honor to be a part of a couple's big day, and provide a product and service that is central to any celebration.
A job where you bring joy to people, can not get any better!
